At pointblank, we place a real emphasis on our students putting in the work in order to make their goals in the music industry a reality. When they finish their studies with us, we help them celebrate those achievements with some very special events organised at the end of each term – events that give our graduating students the chance to put the skills they’ve acquired into practise, whether studying live sound, singing or DJing.
Read on to see how the events unfolded this time around, and if you want to take your skills to the next level with expert instruction and hands-on experience at live gigs, take a look at our London courses. We offer something for everyone, with our courses covering music production, sound engineering, singing, DJing, live sound, radio and more.
The end of term DJ party took place at The Stag’s Head in Hoxton, where our DJ students got the chance to do their thing
The Stag’s Head in Hoxton was the atmospheric backdrop to our latest pointblank Takeover in March. In front of a friendly crowd, students were all given the opportunity to command the intimate space, equipped with the latest Pioneer DJ setup. This kind of experience is a hugely important part of the course, allowing our graduates to put into practise the skills they learned while studying with us in an easygoing – but still very real – environment. With students on the decks all night the range of musical styles was always going to be broad, while DJ instructor Nigel Hosten was on hand to make sure everything ran smoothly from a technical perspective.

Students are given the chance to performance to the crowds in a live club environment
As well as performing at end of term events, our Master diploma students in London also organise their own industry events where they put their music business and performance skills to good use as part of their studies. Previously, our London students have put on successful events at venues such as Basing House, Power Lunches and Surya, all at the forefront of London’s diverse and exciting music scene. One such event was the anticipated launch party of Toasted, up the road at the Haunt in Stoke Newington.

Masterminded by this term’s Music Business module 3 class, the students flexed their newly acquired knowledge by organising a Saturday night rave up in the heart of East London with promoter and DJ TASHA joining the bill. As well as being the force behind Neighbourhood, an events series responsible for hosting Daniel Avery, Ben Sims and Pariah, TASHA is an instructor at pointblank – and it’s precisely this industry experience that our students benefit from directly when they study with us.
