After a brief summer break, Friday Forum is back with another deconstruction from PB’s very own half-man half-keyboard and Electronic Music Composition (EMC) course – part of our Ableton Diploma – tutor Ski Oakenfull. This time, we’re tackling one of the songs of the summer – Caribou’s Can’t Do Without You. It’s a soulful, simple song that builds into a manic, epic ending while retaining its original idea and simplicity. We thought it’d be a good idea to give it the deconstruction treatment, breaking it apart using Ableton Live and showing you exactly how the chords, melodies and sounds were made.
If you like what you see, you can find out more about our Ableton Diploma here. In it you’ll learn about all aspects of Ableton from mixing, production and mastering while the EMC module gives you the musical theory you’ll need to get your tracks to stand out from the noise. Scales, chord progressions and keys will be explained as well as breaking down huge tracks from Deadmau5, Julio Bashmore, Avicii and more. Click here to find out more about our Ableton Diploma and watch the video below to get an insight into how EMC works. Make sure you subscribe to our YouTube channel for more tutorials, interviews and course previews.
