A couple of weeks ago we published a virtual tour of our new Orsman Road studio complex. While it certainly goes some way to capturing the creative environment and world-class facilities we offer here at Point Blank, nothing beats experiencing something firsthand. That’s why we’re hosting an Open House event at the school on Friday 10th June. Like our hugely successful PBLA Open Houses, this event is a great chance for prospective students to check out the state-of-the-art equipment on hand and take part in a two free tutorial sessions with established music industry guests. Kicking the Open House off, Point Blank’s Lead Course Developer Ski Oakenfull will be presenting a Track Masterclass. For this session, he will bring his Ableton and Push expertise to Duke Dumont’s mega-hit Ocean Drive, breaking down the musical sounds and techniques used in the track (which has 100 million streams on YouTube and counting). Ski’s previously broken down tracks from the likes of Kraftwerk, Moderat, Caribou, Disclosure and many more and this one’s set to be unmissable.
This will be followed by a Music Industry Panel and Q&A. Moderated by PB’s Declan McGlynn, a cross-section of industry experts will discuss the challenges facing the new generation of producers looking to succeed in a constantly-evolving music industry. As the pressure mounts for artists to be jack-of-all-trades, producing, mixing, mastering and promoting themselves, this panel asks whether the ‘master-of-one’ concept is being supplanted by all-encompassing DIY approach. On the panel is Mark Jones, founder of independent label Wall of Sound, presenter, DJ, creator of IAmMusic, SISTER and Editor of new social network Crowdmix Carly Wilford, 1XTRA DJ Bailey and Sam Willis, music producer and A&R for the renowned R&S label.
Afterwards, attendees will get to meet the instructors who will be on hand to answer any questions, there’s a full tour of the studios.
