Point Blank LA Earns NASM Accreditation: A Remarkable Milestone

On July 3, 2024, Point Blank Music School LA was granted accreditation through the National Association of Schools of Music (NASM), the national accrediting body for music and related disciplines. This achievement is the pinnacle of an extensive quality assurance process which began in 2020, when Point Blank first set wheels in motion to apply for membership in NASM. The process included a comprehensive long-term self-study, an on-site visit with NASM evaluators, and peer review by NASM’s Commission on Accreditation.

“Gaining NASM accreditation is a massive milestone in Point Blank’s history and development,” said Daniel Brummel, Point Blank’s Chief Academic Officer. “Becoming an accredited member of NASM means that we meet all applicable standards set by one of the most distinguished accreditation bodies in America.”

NASM has been the gold standard for higher education in music for the past century. Founded in 1924, NASM is celebrating their centennial at their 100th Annual Meeting this November in Chicago, where they will welcome in Point Blank LA as one of their newest accredited member institutions. NASM accreditation means greater credibility and visibility for Point Blank LA’s diploma programs, both for prospective students and for employers looking to hire graduates, and now that Point Blank is NASM-accredited, the school will aim to achieve other important strategic goals such as participating in federal student aid programs, offering visas to international students, and seeking approval to offer degree programs.

“Our NASM membership places us alongside some of the most well-known music schools in the country, including Colburn, Eastman, Belmont, Pepperdine, Loyola Marymount, Cleveland Institute, and many, many others” added Institutional Director Jay Ryall.

The Association now includes approximately 618 accredited institutional members, including conservatories, colleges, and universities all across the United States. NASM’s stated purposes, as articulated in its Constitution, are:

  • To advance the course of music in American life and especially in higher education.
  • To establish and maintain threshold standards for the education of musicians, while encouraging both diversity and excellence.
  • To provide a national forum for the discussion of issues related to these purposes.

Brummel said Point Blank’s achievement was thanks to the incredible dedication its of faculty and administrators who played an integral part in the accreditation process, as well as tremendous support from Point Blank’s London School.

“I couldn’t be prouder of our teachers, whose commitment to our students is at the core of this prestigious accreditation,” said Brummel. “It is truly an honor and a direct credit to both their expertise in music and the hard work they put into our educational programs on a daily basis.”
