In June, Point Blank will be hopping a plane to Barcelona where we will be partnering with Sónar+D to present two unmissable sessions as part of Sónar Festival‘s international conference programme. First, the big news. We are extremely excited to announce that once again Point Blank will be teaming up with electronic music’s innovator-in-chief Richie Hawtin for an exclusive masterclass. For the first time the iconic producer will be showcasing a brand new mixer developed for the PLAYdifferently initiative, in partnership with Allen & Heath.

This unique session – hosted by Point Blank’s Declan McGlynn – will explore the additional creative possibilities for live performance enabled by Richie’s latest live setup, with an insight into how digital and analogue worlds are brought ever closer together. Of course, this isn’t the first time Point Blank have hosted a masterclass with Richie Hawtin. In 2015 we teamed up in Los Angeles as part of the Hawtin’s music technology education tour CTRL.
We will also be hosting a deconstruction session with Lead Course Developer Ski Oakenfull in which a hit track will be dissected in order to analyse its elements: sounds, effects, structure and techniques used while producing. The song selected for this workshop will be the one and only ‘Blue Monday’ by New Order.

Sónar+D is the international conference that explores the intersection between creativity and technology, and the digital transformation of the cultural industries involved. The programme of events runs parallel to Sónar By Day, and is an integral part of Sónar Festival, which is recognised as being positioned at the cutting edge of the electronic music landscape. The festival itself is divided into Sónar by Day, featuring showcases and DJ performances, Sónar+D, geared towards the digital creative industries and, of course, Sónar By Night which sees the Fira Gran Via de L’Hospitalet play host to the world’s leading artist and DJs. Jean Michel Jarre, Flume, Four Tet, Oneohtrix Point Never, Kode 9 and Kelela represent just a tiny snapshot of the artists performing across the three days, two venues and countless genres this year.
