One reason why aspiring musicians choose pointblank to help them develop their skills and prepare them for a career in the music industry is our real-world industry connections. Just one of the experts we have onboard is Kwame Kwaten, our in-house A&R and Lead Student Advisor who boasts an impressive history.
Kwame Kwaten is a music industry mogul. His 30-year career in the music business has seen him thrive as an artist, having had a #1 in the dance chart with his band D’Influence, sign to Atlantic Records, be shortlisted for a Mercury Prize and support the likes of Michael Jackson, Prince and James Brown as well as working as a producer, consultant, public speaker and label A&R.
He’s acted as an artist manager, managing the successful Laura Mvula, Shola Ama and Rumer as well as flourished in the business side of the industry, working as Senior A&R at Believe Digital, Co-Director of a social enterprise company, Cre8ing Vision, a ‘The BRIT Trust’ trustee and running his own successful agencies Gurushack and Ferocious Talent.
His most recent venture, Gurushack, champions independent artists, offering flexible and ‘pay only for what you need’ access to top vetted music industry professionals. Each expert (or guru as they call them) is a champion of independent artists and someone the Gurushack team (with 40+ years combined experience) has worked with previously – so they can really vouch for their work. Gurushack allows artists to build their team on their terms, whilst retaining their rights. Looking for a free consultation from the innovative Gurushack? Head here.
If you’re an artist in search of guidance, Kwame’s Ferocious Talent agency can help. The talent platform helps aspiring artists with all aspects of their career including management, consultancy, artist development, in-house production and more. Just recently, singer-songwriter Vivienne Chi of Ferocious Talent teamed up with pointblank student Harry Shadow to release a dancefloor-ready reimagining of the Fleetwood Mac classic, ‘Dreams’. The pair’s rendition has since gone on to amass almost 350,000 streams since its release three months ago.
In addition to all this, another great reason to work with Kwame is his involvement with the UK’s MMF (Music Managers Forum) as the Vice-Chair. The MMF drives to educate, inform and represent UK-based managers as well as offer a network for its members to share experiences, opportunities and information. They are at the forefront of the contemporary music industries and provide uncharted support to their ever-growing roster of professionals and entrepreneurs. As pointblank has been appointed an official Education Associate of the MMF, all students who enrol on our BA (Hons) Music Industry Management Degree will be entitled to membership of this prestigious community of music managers.
Kwame Kwaten is fully equipped to provide our students with solid industry insights. Since joining the team, we have seen an uplift in success from those mentored by the industry veteran.
