Point Blank Recordings Presents: ‘We Are The Future’ by Orca Sound and PB Graduate Vivienne Chi

In the realm of Melodic and Progressive House, boundary-pushing collaborations are the lifeblood of the genre. Today, we’re turning the spotlight on a blazing track recently released through our label Point Blank Recordings: “We Are The Future” from Orca Sound and Vivienne Chi.

Orca Sound, a seasoned DJ who’s dominated the scene from the electrifying stages of London’s Printworks to the iconic festival grounds of Glastonbury, has joined forces with Vivienne Chi, a veritable force in the music world and Point Blank alum. Vivienne studied on our DJ course at Point Blank and boasts 5 million Spotify streams to her name and has received support from outlets like Line Of Best Fit, Earmilk, and Clash.

We caught up with them to hear about the creative process behind the track and what they like to get up to outside of music.

  1. Can you share the story behind the creation of “We Are The Future”? How did the collaboration come about, and what was the inspiration behind the track?

Jolyon got in touch to see if I was up for laying the vocal down to see how it sounded… this was a year or so ago… I played around with it in my home studio.. the original vocal was a sample so I wanted to add my own flavour to it. We both loved how it turned out.. I sent it to my management who passed it on to Point Blank… let’s see where we go from here! So far, it’s gathering really positive feedback from DJs and playlists.

2. How did it feel to get a 10/10 from Paul Oakenfold?

Absolutely amazing – what a big time legend!

3. What advice would you give to aspiring artists who are just starting their creative journey?

Diversify! Try everything to see what sticks… don’t put yourself in a box. Practice as much as you can and know your craft.

4. Can you share any upcoming projects, shows, or exciting plans for the future?

I’m currently working on new tracks I’ll be releasing soon – down the dance music route.

5. Outside of music, what is your favourite thing to do?

Going to festivals! I guess that’s still music related… most things I enjoy are. Other than that – wild swimming & nature…

  1. Can you share the story behind the creation of “We Are The Future”? How did the collaboration come about, and what was the inspiration behind the track?

I wanted to build a track around an iconic vocal that told a complete story with a musical journey that constantly evolves and allows the listener to really embed themselves into the track.

  1. “We Are The Future” has been described as a Melodic/Progressive House club banger. Can you tell us more about the production process?

This track has been around for a while in a few different forms but finally got there! The aim was to try and make a track that thumped in the clubs and outdoors but also worked equally well as an everyday listening experience. The composition has elements of music genres and sounds that I love but mostly inspired by my love of progressive house and trance. Working with Vivienne Chi was amazing, her voice is perfect for the track and she couldn’t have captured the vibe better. The vocal keeps the rave vibe and and sets it up for big euphoric main breakdown. Love it! I got the opportunity to mix the track in Dolby Atmos with Orcastra & Sonosphere which really allowed for track to really come into its own. Giving space and movement to the individual sounds places the listener right inside the track. I can’t wait to share this and even play it live in spatial audio using Orcastra software back end of this summer.

3. How did it feel to get a 10/10 from Paul Oakenfold?

Not sure it gets much better than that! He’s been a huge inspiration in my music journey

4. What advice would you give to aspiring artists who are just starting their creative journey?

Be true to your yourself and make/play music you love to listen to. Don’t be afraid to try new things.

5. Can you share any upcoming projects, shows, or exciting plans for the future?

Couple of shows in the pipeline in Ibiza back end of the summer which is always nice Supporting Nora en Pure at brixton electric in sept Lots more music coming out with some awesome collaborations. 6.Outside of music, what is your favorite thing to do?
