We created Point Blank’s in-house record label, Point Blank Recordings, as a space to release and promote the music of the talented artists who hone their craft at our global music school. Over the last year, we’ve upped the ante and kicked our record label and promotional services up a gear, releasing a number of excellent tracks from the likes of Funk Cartel, Vivienne Chi and Harry Shadow, Paul Schulze and Adaptive and many more.
One of the main reasons why Point Blank Recordings is a stellar opportunity for our students is thanks to our deep ties within the music industry. The Point Blank Legends project enables up and coming PB students to team up with some of the music industry’s most iconic singers and songwriters, reinvigorating the timeless styles of great artists through the contemporary vision of our talented students and alumni. Refuel, Reactivate, Re-inspire.
This PB Legends project saw our students jump in the studio with the likes of: Kathy Sledge, the founding member and lead singer of Sister Sledge whose tracks, ‘Take Me Back to Love Again’ and ‘We Are Family’ hit number one in the USA; Kym Mazelle, who is widely regarded as a pioneer of the house music genre; Elisabeth Troy who laid down the vox for MJ Cole’s gold-selling ‘Sincere’ and has since collaborated with Clean Bandit and more and, lastly, Ultra Naté, the singer behind the global club classic ‘Free’ and number one tracks ‘Automatic’ and ‘Give it All You Got’.
These stellar opportunities arose through our Point Blank Recordings A&R Director, Kwame Kwaten, who has solid connections within the music industry. He’s had a #1 in the dance chart with his band D’Influence, signed to Atlantic Records, been shortlisted for a Mercury Prize, supported the likes of Michael Jackson, Prince, James Brown and managed the successful artists Laura Mvula and Shola Ama – so it’s no surprise these opportunities are in abundance with Kwame and Point Blank.
