How best to judge the quality of the courses that we offer at Point Blank? A cursory look at some of the high profile former students certainly gives credence to our belief that we offer the best possible foundation for a career in the music industry. However, it also means a great deal to see these beliefs validated through official channels, too – as is the case with a recent External Examiners Report of our online DipHE Music Production and Business course.
An External Examiner is responsible for being an impartial and objective attendee at Assessment boards, responsible for evaluating the quality of the programme that we offer. In short, they evaluate whether Point Blank meets the rigorous standards expected from a course validated by Middlesex University. They had some very positive words to say in their most recent appraisal which we wanted to share with you:
“There is a persistent drive to improve the content, delivery, assessment and packaging of the online course.”
“The programme is effectively run and the quality of course materials is high.”
“There has also been the appointment of additional industry specialists to the course delivery. This helps to maintain the reputation of the course, having current industry practitioners delivering units. This in turn helps students to receive current industry practice from tutors, helping to make the transition to employment more effective.”
As we’ve always invested a lot in the importance of our industry connections – a massive point of difference for us compared to other schools – it’s great to see this recognised in the report. These new appointments include Music Composition instructor Kevin Kerrigan, an experienced industry professional who has worked with Bjork, Gwen Stefani, Eurythmics and Kylie. Also onboard is Music Industry instructor Jen Anderson has a long history at the top tier of the business having ran T In the Park, A&R’d at Fiction Records, set up King Tut Recordings and running her own business, Euphonios. Then there’s Paul Ressel, who leads Production Analysis – he has produced Lana Del Ray and Shaznay Lewis as well as composing for MTV, Channel 4, Discovery, Sky, IKEA, Ford & BBC Radio 4. You can watch Paul’s instructor profile video below.
