DJ Suketu returns for another weekly vlog following his progress on our Complete Electronic Music Production course. DJ Suketu is one of India’s top DJs and also runs The Music Inc (TMI), one of Mumbai’s finest musical institutions. Having completed the first module in Electronic Music Production 1, we and he move on the aptly titled second module: Electronic Music Production 2. This module builds on the techniques and theory studied in EMP 1 to give a much fuller appreciation of producing tracks. This module incorporates a few new genres and styles which are House, Deep House, Trap and Drum & Bass.
So here we are, beginning the second module of Complete Electronic Music Production online. Week 1 of EMP 2 acts as an introduction to the module as a whole, and we dive right into Beatmaking. As we learned in EMP 1, the beat is often the starting point for producing electronic music, and here we delve much deeper into the vast sea of possibilities when programming your beat. Students will learn about choosing the rights sounds, building custom kits, what the advantages are of programming in your own sounds, and what special effects you should look to for inspiration. As Suketu explains, this week allows students to build much more complex and interesting beats than they are taught in EMP 1. By way of example, we’ve included in this week’s blog a video from the course, namely how to programme a trap pattern in Ableton. Take a look at that below, and don’t forget to check back next week for another update from ourselves and DJ Suketu.
Programming a Trap Beat in Ableton
DJ Suketu and The Music Inc have been working closely with Point Blank in recent months to create a unique educational pathway for their students looking to study with us in London. Indian students looking for academic accreditation in the UK can benefit from saving up to £3,000 on our BA (Hons) Music Production & Sound Engineering Degree, in which we shape a bespoke range of modules for their programme. We have also developed two courses for TMI students looking to study with us in London based on a short-term visa, in the form of our Advanced Music Production & Sound Design Diploma and Advanced Music Production & Sound Design Certificate.
