Welcome to the launch of our ‘PB Talks’ series, in which we share some of the guest talks and lectures that have taken place at the school. We have a growing archive of industry guest talks that are available to all our students as an extra course resource, with a wide range of industry guests also planned for future classes. For this series, we’ll be sharing a small taste of what our students have access to, whether in person at the schools or online via our virtual learning environment. The first guest talk we’ll be sharing is taken from one of our Radio classrooms, featuring the 1Xtra producer Alex Lawless. Check out our radio courses to find your own route to the top.
Alex Lawless is a radio producer who works at Radio 1Xtra. He is a well-respected member of the team at 1Xtra and has worked with one of the station’s most recognisable faces (and voices), Charlie Sloth, for several years. Alex produced Sloth’s The 8th show, which we all now know as one of 1Xtra’s flagship shows. Here Alex discusses in-depth his own route into radio production via a trainee scheme at the BBC that took him across several aspects of the corporation, including Radio 4’s Woman’s Hour. He also gets into the nitty-gritty of producing at the BBC, working with Mr Sloth and what sort of things to consider when trying to produce a successful radio show.
This is the first of these videos so keep your eyes peeled for the next instalment – we’ve had some fantastic speakers in recent times and we can’t wait to share some of these videos with you. Don’t forget to access them all you’ll have to study with us, and with schools in London, Los Angeles, Ibiza, Mumbai and Online you can do so from absolutely anywhere! Give us a shout if you have any questions.
