Aged 17, Thomas Hays moved from Sunderland in the North-East to study at our London school. He hasn’t been a student with us for long, but it’s safe to say that he’s hit the ground running. “Moving to London from the North East to study at Point Blank has already taught me so much about DJing, music production and myself – and I’ve only been here two months!”
Passionate about house music from the tender age of 10, Thomas has only been DJing for less than a year but his passion and hard work is standing him in good stead. While his DJ style is influenced by classic names like DJ Sneak, Derrick Carter and Darius Syrossian, he demonstrates a distinctly 21st century approach, cultivating his own brand – Testament – with an ambition to build an event series and label based out of the North-East. “It is all about sharing the music I love with other people and creating experiences that people will remember,” he says, of the concept.
Arriving at Point Blank with no prior musical training, he’s building his skills in Point Blank’s gear-packed DJ studios under the mentorship of Point Blank’s expert instructors. “My favourite aspect of studying at Point Blank is how patient the tutors are with me,” he says. “I had no music production experience prior to being here so they always take the time to explain things to me in detail.” He demonstrates his box-fresh skills in this soulful and kinetic house mix for Pioneer DJ Radio and if you like what you hear, why not hit up his Soundcloud or Facebook to keep up with his career in real-time – or head to the Testament Facebook page to get involved.
