Plugins give us the creative freedom to reproduce and create an ever-expanding range of sounds. However, with so many plugins competing for your attention, it can be hard to know where to start.
At Point Blank we scour the vast sea of available software to bring you our pick of the best in our regular feature Plugin of the Week. We also show you in easy to follow videos, broadcast live from our studios in East London, just what these plugins can do.
Below you will find our favourite Plugin of the Week videos from 2016. Subscribe to our YouTube Channel to keep up to date with future plugin demos, tutorials, masterclasses and more. Eventide TVerb
Designed in collaboration with Tony Visconti, this reverb plugin is based on a very specific mic set up Visconti used in Berlin’s Hansa Studios when recording Heroes in 1979 with David Bowie. TVerb by Eventide offers one of the most convincing simulations of a real room Point Blank’s JC Concato has ever heard, without rinsing your CPU.
NI Monark
Monark is a virtual analog synth which gives you three oscillator synths that can double as an LFO, two envelopes and a filter. That might not sound like much, but this Minimoog simulator really packs a punch. Apocryphally (or at least that’s what Declan McGlynn heard) Monark was made by a Native Instruments employee for his own personal use, but impressed the NI team so much that they released it for sale.
Soundtoys Tremolator
JC returns in this video to demonstrate how Soundtoys’ Tremolator offers users way more than a simple on-off tremolo effect. This versatile plugin, which can be applied to a wide range of sound sources, has been thoughtfully designed to allow you to adjust the rate, depth, groove, feel and accent of the tremolo with precision. It also comes with a treasure trove of presets.
