At Point Blank, we’re all about creating fantastic opportunities for our vocal degree students and aspiring artists to showcase their talent, and one of our favourite events is Phil Ramocon’s Open Mic Night. Phil Ramocon is a music industry veteran with an incredible 25-year career, working with legendary artists like Bob Marley, Neneh Cherry, and Marianne Faithful. As a Grammy Award-winning pianist, performer, and Point Blank lecturer, he’s a true inspiration to anyone looking to make it in the industry.
For over five years, Phil has been running this incredible event in the heart of Shoreditch at The Stag’s Head pub, just a stone’s throw from our Point Blank Orsman Road campus. The Open Mic welcomes artists of all ages and levels, from complete beginners to seasoned pros like Phil himself. In conversation with Phil, he emphasises the best part of running the event is witnessing performers improve as they regularly attend the night. If you’re passionate about fulfilling your potential as a musician and making large strides quickly, joining our Music Production and Vocal Performance degree course will cover everything from learning to command a stage to perform in a wide range of genres.
The atmosphere at Phil Ramocon’s Open Mic Night is electric, and the crowd is always supportive and encouraging. Whether you’re a solo artist, a band, or just looking for a fun evening of live music with your friends, this is the place to be. You can perform with the incredible house band who are quick to pick up on your material or bring your own instrument to accompany yourself.
The Open Mic Night kicks off with sign-up starting around 6 pm, and the event runs from 7:30 pm to 11:00 pm. It’s the perfect opportunity to test out new material, connect with other musicians, and even network with producers and songwriters.
