PB Los Angeles Open House: September 17th w/ Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs

Following the massive success of our previous PBLA Open House events, including May’s masterclass with Ableton Certified Trainer Brian Markman, we’re gearing up for another exclusive Open House. For those of you who haven’t had the pleasure of visiting our LA school, the Open House is the ideal opportunity to check out the brand new kit, meet our instructors and even benefit from a very special guest artist masterclass. The event takes place at Mack Sennett Studios, 1215 Bates Avenue, Los Angeles on 17th September – spaces are strictly limited so RSVP via the Eventbrite page to reserve your place.

But who have we lined up for you this time? Excitingly, we have the honour of being joined by critically acclaimed producer and DJ Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs! The project of Oxford-born Orlando Higginbottom, his 2012 album Trouble was championed by i-D, NME, Pitchfork, The Guardian and was DJ Magazine’s Album of the Year. However, he cemented his dancefloor credentials two years earlier, with his 2009 EP All in One Sixty Dancehalls released on Joe Goddard’s Greco Roman label. An in-demand DJ with a huge knowledge of dance music history – and record collection to match – he has played some of the most respected clubs in the world. Taking the helm for the fourth instalment of Crosstown Rebels’ Get Lost mix series, he showcased his inimitable style and influences, pulling together music by artists as diverse as UR, Axel Boman, LFO and Gold Panda.

Indeed, with so much of his artist identity tied into the broad sweep of his music taste, we simply couldn’t pass up an opportunity to delve into his famed record collection. This very special session will see Orlando digging deep and pulling out four records that have inspired him throughout the years and breaking them down to demonstrate why they stand out. Not only will the half-hour session offer rare insight into the award-winning artist, it promises to be a musical education. What’s more, it’s absolutely free.

Afterwards there will be an instructor introduction and a tour of the school, including a Q&A. Here, prospective students will get a chance to see firsthand the cutting edge facilities available to students at Point Blank and put any questions they have to our course advisors. Ensure you save your space by heading over to the Eventbrite page and hitting RSVP now. The full itinerary is as follows:

12:00PM – 12:45PM: Producer Perspective: TEED talks about four of his favourite records
12:45PM – 1:00PM: Instructor Introductions
1:00PM – 1:30PM :Q&A + Studio Tour with Course Advisor Hart Thorson
