On Sunday 19th March we will be opening our doors for a very special ‘Point Blank Presents’ event at our London studios, in collaboration with Ableton and Brownswood Recordings. We have lined up some insightful sessions with some exceptional guests coming down to host seminars and track breakdowns, focusing on creative sampling and production. Spaces are limited so RSVP via the Eventbrite page to reserve your free place.
We will also be holding an exclusive production competition in conjunction with Ableton and Brownswood Recordings. If you’re interested in taking part in the competition, submit any track which demonstrates your sampling skills to firstname.lastname@example.org, as a Soundcloud or Dropbox link. If successful, you will be one of 16 competitors who will be provided with a selection of samples from some classic Brownswood records to create a track with on the day and will be in with the chance to win a very, very special prize!
The event begins at 11am at our studio facility at 26 Orsman Road, Hoxton, London N1 5QJ. As you arrive, you’ll meet our staff and instructors who’ll be ready to greet you before taking prospective students on a tour of our state of the art facilities, with refreshments provided. At midday, the first workshop will begin with Chris Read of Whosampled.com holding a seminar on ‘The Art Of Sampling, followed by a special live sampling challenge with Point Blank’s Ski Oakenfull. Ski will be demonstrating the process of sampling and creating a track from scratch using a selection of records provided by Brownswood Recordings. You can watch a sampling tutorial featuring Ski here to get an idea of what to expect.
Redinho will be diving into a track from his latest project, Swet Shop Boys
At 2pm we’ll be joined by producer/vocalist Redinho for a breakdown of his track ‘Aaja’, as part of his Swet Shop Boys project. Using Ableton Live, he will be detailing his production techniques and shedding some light on his creative process. Redinho has played at festivals such as South By Southwest and Sónar, as well as collaborating with acts like Rustie, 100s and Hudson Mohawke. We will later be hosting a panel discussion on the topic ‘Sampling: Creativity or Theft?’ alongside R&S Records Sam Willis (aka Primitive World), Ski Oakenfull and Chris Read, before winding down at 4 pm with a listening session for the sampling competition.
