10 Bandcamp Releases You Can Buy to Help #BlackLivesMatter

Today, June 5th, Bandcamp have again waived their fees to better help those affected by COVID-19 with many raising money for Black Lives Matter. There are a number of excellent releases among the catalogues of these labels and artists – and they’re all donating to the cause. So, If there’s any day to load up on new music to help promote justice, it’s today. Below is a list of some of our favourite contributors to the movement including Hyperdub, Lobster Theremin, Planet Mu, Night Slugs, Ninjatune and more.

In addition to donating to BLM via purchasing some of the music below, you can head here to find an extensive list of charities and organisations to contribute to. To support black artists directly, a list created by the electronic music community is circulating online which features 1,000 black artists and labels.

Hyperdub

Headed up by Kode9, Hyperdub Records is home to the likes of Burial, Walton, Jessy Lanza, DJ Rashad, DJ Spinn, Ikonika, Cooly G and more and is renowned for pushing their forward-thinking club tracks. They are donating their label’s share of sales to Black Lives Matter and related causes.

Lobster Theremin


In addition to their range of merch, Lobster Theremin’s Bandcamp hosts a number of excellent releases from D.Dan, nthng, Grant, HLLW, Warwick and others. The proceeds from their sales will be donated to organizations that benefit people of colour, as well as to bail funds.

Shygirl x Arca

Shygirl and ARCA’s collaboration, ‘unconditional’, is available to download now with 100% of the funds generated from sales to be divided between Black Lives Matter and Inquest UK. The record had been in the works for some time but due to current events, Shygirl said it “felt right to share this now and I hope it means something to you.

Ninjatune 

Ninjatune, the label behind Bicep’s ‘Atlas’, Floating Point’s ‘Crush’, Young Fathers’ ‘Cocoa Sugar’, Peggy Gou’s ‘Once’, The Bug’s ‘Infected’, Jayda G’s ‘Both of Us / Are You Down’ and more are donating the label’s share of sales to the NAACP Legal Defense Fund.

Local Action

If you’re after some new-age garage anthems and all-round feel-good club jams, we’d highly recommend purchasing anything from Local Action’s Bandcamp catalogue. The label are donating their share of all sales to Black Lives Matter, victims of police brutality and related causes.

Night Slugs

The UK club imprint Night Slugs have pledged to donate the label’s cut of sales today between US bail funds and BLM UK. We’d highly recommend checking out Girl Unit’s recent LP, Song Feel.

Morgan Hislop

Morgan Hislop is set to release his brand new EP, Once You Pass The Light You’ll Reach The Spire, on 12th June. You can pre-order the new EP now and Morgan has pledged 100% of profits from the record will go towards Black Lives Matter funds and worthy relevant causes across the UK and the US.

Planet Mu


Featuring a stream of releases from iTal Tek, Venetian Snares, DJ Nate, Sinjin Hawke & Zora Jones, Sami Baha, Silk Road Assassins and more, Planet Mu’s Bandcamp is a treasure trove of experimental club music. The label will be donating their cut of sales to Chicago Defender Charities.

Hooversound Recordings


Recently launched by London’s Sherelle and Naina, Hooversound Recordings already has two stellar releases in the bank. You can take your pick from Deft’s Burna EP or Hyroglifics & Sinistarr’s BS6 – but we suggest you grab both.

Genevieve Artadi

Dizzy Strange Summer from Genevieve Artadi is slated for release on 17th July via Flying Lotus’ Brainfeeder Records. ‘Living Like I Know I’m Gonna Die’ is the first offering from the forthcoming record and beautifully sets the pace for what’s to come.
