Last month, we partnered with independent UK music therapy charity Nordoff Robbins to unleash a Bedroom2Dancefloor competition, with the aim of seeking out the best bedroom DJs in the UK. The rules of the competition were simple: record and send over a 20-30 minute mix to be judged by a panel of industry experts including us (Point Blank), Native Instruments, DJ Mag, Radio 6 and more, before a public vote decides the winner. Please note, as a bonus for all of you who partake in the public vote, winning a weekend break for two is up for grabs – so make sure to get your choice locked in.
Mixes for the competition were submitted in hordes, with track selections ranging from house and techno to EDM, hip-hop and more. Now we are excited to reveal the final five. It is now up to you to decide who should win the epic prize bundle of a two-night stay at Hard Rock Hotel London, a Native Instruments S4 DJ controller, a Point Blank Online course worth over £1,000 and more. The competition closes on 26 May, with the winner announced on 29 May, so get listening and voting! If you’re a bedroom DJ who’d like to break into the mainstream, we can help with our award-winning line of DJ courses.
Even God Wants To Be A DJ
Aberdeen’s Even God Wants To Be A DJ was brought up on the hits of the 60s and 70s spinning records on a single turntable at his parents’ parties. He lived through the 80s and raved through the 90s and now enjoys playing tracks that make people want to dance.
DJ Connor Scott
DJ Connor Scott is a 22-year-old Birmingham-based DJ whose mix is packed with dance floor fillers and big room anthems, featuring tracks from the likes of Sammy Porter, Quintino & Curbi, TJR & Reece Low.
Todd Butler is an up an coming DJ from North Wales whose Bedroom2Dancefloor mix blends old and new hits into just over 30 minutes of non-stop grooves.
If you’re in the mood for 30-minutes of dark and moody house tracks, Becki Bre has you covered. The Coventry-based DJ’s mix features tracks from Endor, Alan Fitzpatrick & Wheats, Friend Within, Audiojack and more.
Jimmy Asbo’s aim for his Bedroom2Dancefloor entry was to get people on the dancefloor. His aptly named “Throwback” mix is crammed with classics from Chaka Khan, Mr. Oizo, Soulwax, New Order, Mylo and others.
In addition to our DJ competitions which are open to the public, we regularly host exclusive DJ competitions for our students at Point Blank. These include the option to submit mixes to be featured on the renowned Pioneer DJ Radio, Magnetic Mag and also play live in our studio hub at our HQ on Orsman Road, London. These opportunities are open to all Point Blank students so whether you’re studying Music Production & Sound Engineering, DJing, Music Industry, Radio Broadcasting or Singing & Songwriting you’ve got the chance to get involved.
