Point Blank Wrapped: Best Masterclasses, Talks and Tutorials of 2021

Over the course of 2021, we had the pleasure of working on a wealth of essential music-centric content. From masterclasses and track breakdowns with some of the most exciting artists in the industry to our own in-house tutorials, reviews, music videos and more, last year was certainly one to remember at Point Blank.

Masterclass: Rudimental Break Down Their No. 1 Hit Track ‘Feel The Love’

Having signed to Asylum Records, Atlantic Records and Black Butter Records, releasing numerous UK chart-topping hits, playing global sell-out shows and been nominated for a Mercury Prize, as well as winning several awards such as the Brit Award and the MOBO Award for Best Album, Rudimental are undoubtedly one of the most successful acts to come out of the UK in the last decade.

Track Breakdown: Denis Sulta – ‘It’s Only Real’ Track Breakdown

Denis Sulta, real name Hector Barbour, is a Glasgow native best known for his meticulous and diverse approach to dance music. He’s released music on influential labels such as Dixon Avenue Basement Jams, Numbers and Ninja Tune, as well as his own imprint Sulta Selects. In addition, he’s graduated from the Red Bull Music Academy in Montreal, was a recent Mixmag cover-star and recently joined BBC Radio 1’s Residency show alongside Jayda G, HAAi, Charlotte de Witte and Saoirse. In this video, the artist breaks down his hit track, ‘It’s Only Real’.

Deconstruction: The Mandalorian Theme Song by Ludwig Göransson w/ Claude Ruelle

In this Deconstruction, Point Blank’s composition for film and TV lecturer, Claude Ruelle, breaks down the main theme behind the Disney+ show The Mandalorian. Jon Favreau’s The Mandalorian is the first live-action series in the Star Wars franchise. Since its release in 2019, the programme has won multiple awards, including seven Emmy’s in 2020 with the score itself taking home the Emmy award for Outstanding Music Composition.

Tutorial: Creative Comping in Ableton Live 11

During the video, Anna shows how you can easily create multiple take lanes and fill them with interesting loops and samples. She then uses the pen tool to select random slices of each of these loops and combines them into a new glitchy and technical-sounding pattern.
