Watch a Deconstruction of Calvin Harris – ‘Slide’ ft. Frank Ocean (FFL!)

Welcome to another edition of Friday Forum Live where you’ll be able to watch our Lead Course Developer Ski Oakenfull deconstruct one of Calvin Harris’ many earth-shattering hits from last year. Graced with the presence of the most popular rap group in the states, as well as arguably the most excitingly independent voice in popular music, this one was never likely to falter. Tune in at 13.00 GMT 9 Feb for a live deconstruction of ‘Slide’ feat. Frank Ocean and Migos. Want to get to know a DAW the way Ski does? Or wish you could construct tracks with the assurance of Calvin Harris? Take a look at our music production courses in London and Online.

In one of the biggest hits of 2017, Calvin Harris teamed up with two of the biggest stars in music today in Frank Ocean and Migos for ‘Slide’. Veering slightly from his default EDM-banger mode, Harris rolled back the years on this one for a beat more reminiscent of his work at the start of his career (remember ‘I Created Disco’ anyone?). It’s a laid-back, breezy funk number quite perfectly summed up by it’s accompanying video: ultra-slow footage of a palm canopy and general tropical lushness. In typical style, Frank Ocean’s appearance on the track takes it to a new level entirely, with an effortless control of melody and tone, and it’s a real treat to hear Ocean back on a classic summer anthem. Migos’ turn ties everything with a flourish, and there you have it: three and a half minutes of perfect pop for the sunshine.
