New Label Release on Point Blank Music: sw0t – ‘Energy’

It’s a funny thing, that inner voice. You know the one. It comes to you day and night, repeating the beat of its message. The words loop endlessly, irresistibly, and the message is clear – make music! Fledgling producer sw0t knows all about that voice. It’s what urged him to make the track ‘Energy’, which is out now on Point Blank Music.

Getting your music signed, released, and earning money from it through our own in-house label Point Blank Music is just one of the many reasons to study with us, and it’s another way we help to connect our students directly to the industry. Throughout the duration of the course and after completion, students that sign their tracks to Point Blank Music enjoy 100% digital distribution coverage including Beatport, Juno Download, Amazon, iTunes and Spotify and extensive promotion through Point Blank’s social media, marketing and database networks. Point Blank Music releases music exclusively from our students, and showcases all of the best talent that we’re constantly developing and nurturing.

We’ll also send your tracks to the world’s top DJs via our promo system Labelworxs. DJs that have supported Point Blank Music releases include Terry Francis (Fabric), Paco Osuna (Minus), Slam and Magda. If you would like your music to be considered for the label, please get in touch with Sarah.

The latest release on Point Blank’s in-house record label is an energetic new single from sw0t

A confident, punchy track with a satisfying metallic breakdown, ‘Energy’ rebuilds with a nod to the early 90s dance acts sw0t grew up with. In a style he describes as progressive dance house, sw0t delivers a strong, melodic track, which is unafraid of confronting the space around the music. From learning the piano and organ as a child, sw0t moved into DJing after hearing music by artists like The KLF, The Prodigy, and The Chemical Brothers. He collected over 1,000 records (mainly hard trance and UK hardcore) and put in some serious raving hours before heading into the corporate desert.

Sw0t said: “Oh man I loved those banging piano chords and melodies. Then I became more passive in terms of music, went on chasing the money, focusing on a career in IT but still listening to a lot of the music out there. After wasting years with corporate nonsense, I decided to change my life. I went freelance and decided to get back into music. I really wanted to translate all the ideas and melodies from my head into real electronic dance music.”

Ready and eager to learn, sw0t signed up to Point Blank’s online Logic Pro Diploma course which he studied part time so he could fit it around freelance IT work in his native Germany.

It was the technical part that was the missing link for me between my theoretical musical knowledge and being able to produce music. Studying with Point Blank was an efficient way to quickly get up to date with state of the art music production technology. I loved the hands on Point Blank method. I extended my studies by later taking the Trance/EDM course with Mike Koglin which I really enjoyed because it specialised in how to build this kind of music…and hey, Mike is a legend in the trance scene.

sw0t studied our online Logic Pro Diploma, followed by the Trance/EDM course when he wanted to focus on that particular genre

While artists like Baby D, 2 Unlimited, Swedish House Mafia and Avicii still hold a special place in sw0t’s affections, his current musical influences include Above & Beyond, KSHMR, Tiësto, Arty, Eric Prydz, “everything on Anjunabeats” and the classical film scores of composers like Hans Zimmer and James Newton Howard.

He said: “I discovered my true passion, which is creating the kind of music I always loved listening to. Making music now has a huge priority in my life and I spend every spare minute doing that! Studying at Point Blank was the best decision I ever made, without a doubt.”
