Point Blank Music School has earned the distinguished Gold rating in the 2023 Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF) by the Office for Students, placing us as the sole UK music production institution to achieve this honour. This aligns us with the nation’s elite universities and highlights our unwavering commitment to providing an unmatched, industry-focused educational experience.
The TEF, a government initiative led by the Office for Students (OfS), evaluates universities and colleges nationwide on their teaching standards. Institutions are assessed based on written submissions, key data indicators, and student feedback, culminating in ratings that range from Gold, Silver, Bronze and ‘requires improvement’.
This year, 46 universities and colleges were awarded Gold ratings in the TEF, which identifies excellent undergraduate teaching and student outcomes. For the first time, each institution was evaluated on various aspects of the TEF, including the student experience and outcomes.
Of particular note is the distinction Point Blank holds as one of only nine specialist providers in creative arts subjects to receive a Gold rating. Of that nine, we are the only music production institute to achieve that feat. This recognition highlights our unique contribution to the creative arts education sector and our role in shaping future industry leaders.

We proudly clinched the top prize for Technology Enhanced Learning at the Independent Higher Education Awards 2023, further demonstrating our commitment to innovative education. Alongside this prestigious accolade, we have significantly exceeded benchmarks in the National Student Survey, achieving an impressive 86% in Teaching Quality, 81% in Student Well-being, and an outstanding 91% in Freedom of Expression. These remarkable scores and accolades, when combined with our TEF Gold rating, affirm our standing as a premier music educator, both in the UK and on the global stage
